Acne Treatment Failure and How to Avoid

Acne, a prevalent skin disorder, has been a significant reason for dermatologist visits. Statistics indicate that nearly 85% of individuals aged 12–25, 8% of those between 25–34, and 3% in the 35–44 age group experience some degree of acne. While pharmacologic resources for acne treatment are abundant, the success of therapy is contingent upon patient compliance. Despite numerous treatment options, cases of treatment failure persist. The pivotal role of patient education in enhancing compliance and, consequently, treatment outcomes is emphasized.

The discussion before treatment initiation is highlighted as crucial, with dermatologists advised to spend a minimum of 20 minutes in the initial counseling session. During this time, the dermatologist should explain the reasons for acne using simple language and dispel prevalent myths associated with the condition.
